Sold

From the auction catalogue of Raymond Beaumont
4th June 1928

After finalising the estate of his mother, Emma John was able to consider his own future. With a wife and two children he decided that he wanted to move away from Brighton. In retrospect his children and grandchildren found this action a little strange as Hester his wife had made a life for herself in the Sussex town. John had the inherited capital to chose his own future.

In 1928 John Povey Goodridge sold his butcher's business and moved with his wife, Hester and two daughters, Betty and Joan to Hill House on the western edge of the Blackdown Hills in Devon. The freehold of the property and goodwill of the business was sold by auction. The purchaser is recorded in the Trade Directory for 1929 as E. Chapman (Ernest).
